The Planning and Zoning Authority has given their stamp of approval to the construction of a new QuikTrip convenience store (again) at their meeting on December 19th. This decision paves the way for the project’s next phase, which requires the City Council’s approval at their meeting on January 2.
QuikTrip Store #279 will be located at the southeast corner of US 69 Highway and McCleary Road, at 2021 W. Jesse James Road. According to Caitlynn Helsper, Real Estate Project Manager for QuikTrip’s Kansas City Division, construction is set to commence no later than March 1st, 2024, and is expected to span approximately 32 weeks. This timeline suggests a tentative completion date of around October 11th, 2024, barring additional setbacks.
This is the second time QuikTrip has gone through the effort to get their plans approved. Initially, their plan included the convenience store and a medical clinic. However, the latest plans have revised this, focusing solely on the QuikTrip store.
The new proposal brought to the Planning and Zoning Authority included several public infrastructure improvements associated with the project. These include access modifications to McCleary Road and Jesse James Road and necessary improvements at the intersection with US 69 Highway, which, according to city staff and QuikTrip officials, have been approved by MoDOT. Additionally, the plans now include sidewalks and onsite stormwater retention.
Approval by Planning and Zoning, coupled with the expected City Council approval, marks a significant step in bringing this much-anticipated and regionally popular convenience store option to the citizens of Excelsior Springs. Residents and visitors can look forward to a new destination for their daily needs, with the QuikTrip store promising to offer a wide range of products and services.
