Excelsior Springs Hospital Golf Tournament Raises Funds, Fun for 33rd Year

Excelsior Springs, Mo. – The 33rd annual Excelsior Springs Hospital golf tournament kicked off the weekend on a high note, with more than 20 teams participating in the community event.

“This tournament is a wonderful way for us to connect with the community and raise vital funds to support the important work we do here at Excelsior Springs Hospital,” said Kristen DeHart, CEO of Excelsior Springs Hospital. “The support we receive year after year is truly heartwarming.”

The tournament, a four-player scramble format, allowed golfers of all skill levels to compete and enjoy a relaxed round. Teams strategized by choosing the best shot among the group on each hole to achieve the lowest overall score.

Beyond the 18 holes, the tournament offered friendly competition with a putting contest, longest drive contest, and closest-to-the-pin challenge. Winners included Steve Bean (putting), Rodger Gatlin (longest drive), and Mike Jarman (closest to the pin).

Participants received goody bags and enjoyed a raffle with sports memorabilia – some signed or game-worn – up for grabs in a silent auction. A prize wheel and a delicious spread rounded out the amenities.

The competition was fierce on the par-72 course, with only a few strokes separating the victors in each flight. Team Justice-Schmidt-Andrew-Thomas emerged victorious in Flight A with a score of 49. Flight B winners Team Walters-Bernard-Ryun-Walters carded a 55. Flight C saw a three-way tie at 66, with Team Anderson-Anderson-Anderson-Baird taking home the crown on a tiebreaker.

The fundraising extended beyond registration fees. A golf ball drop offered prizes ranging from $100 to $1,000, with frontline healthcare workers among the lucky winners. The day concluded with a sense of connection as golfers, nurses, and hospital staff celebrated with food, prizes, and money, all raised for a good cause and a shared sense of community spirit.
