Excelsior Springs Hospital Continues Free Drive-Through COVID Testing

It’s said, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” and the Excelsior Springs Hospital is doing their part to help prevent the spread of COVID in our community by continuing to offer free drive-through covid testing to the public. The tests are self administered and much less invasive than the early “brain poke” tests that people complained about. When you drive up, staff will ask you to fill out a form that gives consent to be tested and also provides them with information to be able to contact you with your results. Those being tested then insert a swab into each nostril and give it one “spin” to get a good sample of mucus. The swab is placed into a sealed baggie and within 24 hours you will have your results.

According to hospital CEO, Kristen DeHart, since the drive through service has started the hospital has averaged around 100 tests per day. Last week (Sept 5-11th) the positive test rate was around 28%, this week that number has dropped to around 14%. Hospital officials are urging anyone who feels unwell to please get tested and to stay home until they test negative for COVID. If you have a child who you think may have been exposed they can also be tested. Tests can be performed on individuals of any age including infants and toddlers. Let’s all do our part to help keep our community safe!
