Excelsior Springs Gears Up for Waterfest 2023

The much-anticipated Waterfest, Excelsior Springs’ largest festival of the year, is set to paint the town in vibrant hues of celebration and excitement this Friday and Saturday. Downtown Excelsior Springs will transform into a bustling hub of entertainment, delicious cuisine, and lively activities, promising an unforgettable experience for attendees of all ages.

With last year’s event drawing over 8,000 attendees, the Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce Director, Brian Rice, anticipates an even larger turnout this year. “We’re expecting a fantastic turnout this year,” said Brian. “The data from previous years and the overwhelming community support indicate that Waterfest 2023 will be a memorable celebration.”

Waterfest, organized by the Excelsior Springs Area Chamber of Commerce, showcases the city’s vibrant spirit and highlights its rich heritage. The festival boasts an impressive lineup of over 90 craft, food, and retail vendors, ensuring a diverse array of offerings for visitors to explore and enjoy.

“The vendor lineup this year is truly remarkable,” shared Brian. “From unique crafts to delectable culinary delights and exciting retail options, there’s something for everyone. It’s an opportunity to support local businesses and discover hidden gems while immersing yourself in the festive atmosphere.”

Waterfest attendees can indulge in an array of mouthwatering delicacies, shop for handcrafted treasures, and explore the vibrant downtown district. Live entertainment will fill the air with captivating melodies, enhancing the festive ambiance that permeates every corner of the event.

The festival’s highlights include the much-anticipated parade, set to kick off at 9:30 am on Saturday. This year, the parade will welcome celebrity Grand Marshal Sam Webb, an Excelsior Springs High School graduate and esteemed cornerback for the Las Vegas Raiders. Following the parade, festival-goers will have the opportunity to meet and greet Sam Webb at the Chamber tent for autographs and photo opportunities.

Also following the parade will be the 16th Annual Custom Car, Hot Rod, and Truck Show in the Hall of Waters Circle Drive. This event is sponsored by Jones Custom & Collision Center and registration starts at 10:30am. There’s a $25 entry fee and trophies will be given to the top 25 vehicles.

In addition to the Car Show, there will also be a Ladies Only Bike Show on Marietta St. sponsored by Boopy Locks Salon. There is a $10 entry and check in is at 10:30am, with a judging at 2:30pm. Top three places will receive a trophy and one will be named Best in Show.

Additionally, Waterfest offers a wide range of activities for families and children. Excelsior Springs Baptist Church will host free and fun-filled kids’ activities, promising an afternoon of laughter, games, and prizes. Patsy’s Pony Rides will also be available, giving young adventurers a chance to embark on a magical pony ride during festival hours. Watch for Little Mister and Miss Waterfest to be crowned, too!

Many beloved events are returning for attendees to enjoy, such as the historic trolley tours, quilt show at the museum, beer garden, parade, and Re/Max Real Estate hot air balloon rides on Piburn Field Saturday evening from 6-8pm. Live entertainment lineup includes: JD and the Chasers, Ron Richards, Randy Seedorff & Soul Purpose, RetroActive, Highland Dancers, Heatcats, Team Xtreme, Vigil Annie, 9th Hour, and Andy and the Outlaws.

As the sun sets over Excelsior Springs Friday, the night sky will come alive with a mesmerizing fireworks display off Siloam Mountain. Downtown Excelsior Springs, particularly the area in front of the iconic Hall of Waters, offers a prime viewing spot for attendees to marvel at the breathtaking show. If weather gets in the way, fireworks will be moved to Saturday evening.

“Waterfest is a special event that brings our community together, and we’re thrilled to see the enthusiasm and anticipation building for this year’s festivities. We invite everyone to join us and experience the magic of Waterfest in downtown Excelsior Springs,” said Brian.

Waterfest 2023 is a true testament to the community’s spirit, unity, and resilience. The Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce and local businesses are grateful for the overwhelming support from sponsors, vendors, and attendees who make this grand celebration possible.
