As a community service the Excelsior Springs Fire department is now offering two different CPR classes on a rolling basis. The department is also offering free car seat training and safety checks.
The two CPR classes being offered are Heartsaver/Automated external defibrillator (AED) for citizens and Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers. The Heartsaver/AED class teaches the skills needed to recognize cardiac arrest, get emergency care on the way quickly, and help a person until EMS arrives. BLS for healthcare providers is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. These CPR classes are offered on the third Saturday of each month from 8am-l2pm. The Heartsaver class is offered during the months of January, March, May, July, September, November. The BLS course is offered during the months of February, April, June, August, October, and December. The course cost is only $15, but class size limited to twelve participants. The child car seat checks course will help to make sure your car seats are installed correctly and will also teach you how to use and install a child safety car seat on your own. This course is offered the third Saturday of every month from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
