The Excelsior Springs Farmers Market is set to celebrate National Farmers Market Week, from August 4-10, 2024, during this Wednesday’s event. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the national celebration, which emphasizes the crucial role farmers markets play in the country’s food system.

The local market, known for its community engagement and fresh produce, accepts WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Vouchers, along with EBT and Double-Up Food Bucks, making it accessible to a wider range of residents.

To mark the occasion, the Excelsior Springs Farmers Market has organized a series of special events for the evening market. Highlights include a bounce house, kids’ magic and balloon activities, and a proclamation from local officials. Visitors can also enjoy treats from Nonnie’s Shaved Ice and music from a live DJ. Additionally, the market has been selling raffle tickets for the past month, with the drawing set to take place on August 7th. Participants must be present to win a variety of prizes.

In a recent campaign, the Excelsior Springs Farmers Market encouraged citizens to vote in America’s Farmers Market Celebration by American Farmland Trust. While the market did not secure a national position, it achieved second place in Missouri with 692 votes, narrowly missing first place by 31 votes. Lawson’s market came in fifth place with 163 votes.

The Excelsior Springs Farmers Market operates every Wednesday, offering a morning market from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the Excelsior Springs Community Center and an evening market from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm downtown in the Hitch Lot, behind 414 Company on Thompson Avenue. Additionally, Wood Heights hosts a market on Tuesdays from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Wood Heights City Hall, 2098 East Ridge Drive.

As National Farmers Market Week kicks off, the Excelsior Springs community is invited to join in the celebrations, support local farmers, and enjoy the festivities.
