Excelsior Springs Criminals Feel the Sting of Law Enforcement Efforts

Police Tape

On Saturday, August 20, 2022, criminals in Excelsior Springs received a rude awakening when the Excelsior Springs Police and Clay County Sheriff’s Departments teamed up in a proactive measure to address a number of crime-related issues within the community. Pre-pandemic, these types of operations were pretty common in Excelsior Springs, happening about once a year, and had been focused primarily on sobriety checkpoints. This recent effort was concentrated more on taming “narcotics activity” and tracking down individuals with outstanding warrants. “By all accounts, I think we had a pretty successful night,” said Chief Dull. The joint task force totaled 19 arrests, with five arrests for felony narcotics violations, a number of felony warrants that were cleared, multiple city warrants that were cleared, a handful of municipal drug violations, and one arrest for DUI. Sarah Boyd, Public Relations Manager for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the operation resulted in the recovery of multiple types of narcotics, including suspected fentanyl pills, meth, and cocaine. She said the Clay County Drug Squad is continuing the investigation on the five felony arrests. Dull said he was grateful for the help from Clay County noting that the success of the effort was due in large part to the sheer number of law enforcement officers involved in the operation. “There were probably between 20 to 25 officers, way more than we would ever be able to devote to a proactive effort without them,” he said. The joint effort to crack down on crime is something that Chief Dull said will continue into the future with increased regularity.
