The Excelsior Springs Community Center’s Special Projects Coordinator Jesse Hall sent an update on the work that is being done to expand the center with construction of an outdoor, competition sized swimming pool. In addition to this expansion, Century Lake had to be dredged in order for rain runoff not to flood downstream areas. Hall sent over a report on both stating that this week works has continued at Powell Lake. On Friday, February 24, 2023 they started moving material to raise the dam. The rain did not slow Royal down, as they poured 37 yards with the first of two dome footing pours. He reports that work has always wrapped up for the plumbers, in the first phase of the mechanical room. They are now prepping the remainder of the dome footings in preparation for the second pour.
This week work will continue on the pond dam at Century Lake. They will receive the first of three inspections next week. Tuesday they will do their second pour in the dome footings. After that they will focus on pouring the pool deck. The work will take 20 work days to complete. Work over the past three weeks was reportedly slowed due to the weather. The plan is to open the facility in 2023.
