Excelsior Springs Celebrates National Farmers Market Week

Excelsior Springs, MO — On Wednesday, August 7th, 2024, the Excelsior Springs Farmers Market joined communities across the nation in celebrating the 25th annual National Farmers Market Week. The event, held at The Hitch Lot on 401 South Street from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, drew a large crowd eager to partake in the fun-filled activities and support their local farmers.

The highlight of the event was a proclamation read by Mayor Mark Spohn at 5:00 PM, recognizing the vital role farmers markets play in sustaining local agriculture and providing fresh, healthy food options to the community. The proclamation emphasized the importance of supporting local farmers and the significant impact that the Excelsior Springs Farmers Market has had on the community’s food system.

In addition to the proclamation, attendees enjoyed a range of activities, including music by Beatz DJ, a bounce house for children, and various games. The excitement continued with a raffle drawing at 5:30 PM, featuring a selection of prizes that had everyone eager to participate. Throughout the event, the Yellow Box of Magic entertained with their whimsical balloon creations, adding a touch of magic to the evening.

National Farmers Market Week, celebrated this year from August 4-10, emphasized the essential role that farmers markets play in local communities. Across the country, these markets provide a space for small-scale farmers to sell their products directly to consumers, fostering connections between farmers and the community. The week serves as an opportunity to promote and advocate for farmers markets, with events like the one in Excelsior Springs boosting market attendance and increasing awareness of their value.
