After a heartbreaking 2-1 double-overtime loss to North Kansas City on September 19, the Excelsior Springs Tigers boys soccer team (7-2) bounced back to their strong form this week, securing two dominant road victories. On Monday, September 23, the Tigers traveled to Kansas City to face St. Pius X, where they earned a 4-1 win. Just two days later, they traveled to Winnetonka on September 25, cruising to a commanding 6-0 victory.

Tigers vs. St. Pius X – 4-1 Win (9/23)

Excelsior Springs started strong in their Monday match against St. Pius X, with senior forward Kolin Kincaid leading the charge. Kincaid opened the scoring in the 19th minute, assisted by Brady Schoonover, giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

Kincaid struck again just after halftime, netting a goal in the 45th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. St. Pius X fought back briefly, scoring in the 48th minute to close the gap to 2-1, but the Tigers quickly responded. Jacob Zapata added a third goal for Excelsior Springs in the 60th minute, again with an assist from Kincaid, and Kincaid sealed the victory with his third goal of the game in the 67th minute, completing his hat trick.

Excelsior Springs registered 21 shots, with 10 on goal, while St. Pius managed only 6 shots, 4 of which were on target. The Tigers’ defense held strong, limiting chances for their opponents and securing the team’s first win of the week.

Tigers vs. Winnetonka – 6-0 Win (9/25)

On Wednesday, the Tigers put in an even more dominant performance, shutting out Winnetonka 6-0. Kincaid continued his impressive week by scoring the first goal of the match in the 8th minute, assisted by Schoonover, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Austin Collins doubled the lead in the 26th minute, with Kincaid providing the assist. The Tigers’ offense was relentless, with Zapata scoring back-to-back goals in the 30th and 31st minutes, both assisted by Collins and Schoonover, respectively, pushing the score to 4-0.

Kincaid found the net once more in the 53rd minute, securing his second goal of the match. Schoonover then capped off the Tigers’ stellar day with a goal of his own in the 67th minute, putting the final tally at 6-0.

Excelsior Springs dominated the match from start to finish, tallying 33 shots with 19 on target. The Tigers’ defense remained impenetrable, as goalkeeper Brett Jones made several key saves to preserve the clean sheet.

With these back-to-back wins, the Tigers’ record improves to 7-2, showcasing both offensive firepower and defensive solidity. They will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming matches. On Monday, September 30, they host Truman, followed by a trip to Smithville on Thursday, October 3.
