Excelsior Springs, MO — The Excelsior Springs School Board convened on June 25, 2024, with all members present. The meeting, held at the Support Services Center, covered a range of important topics and decisions affecting the district.
The board adopted the consent agenda, and approved various construction invoices for ongoing projects at Lewis Elementary and the Career Center, policy updates from the Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA), and contracts and agreements for the 2024-25 school year. These agreements included services with the Rainbow Center, City of Excelsior Springs, Synergy, UMKC, Zack Group, Behavioral Health Allies, and KVC Behavioral Healthcare.
The board approved school meal pricing for the 2024-25 year, requests for proposals for interactive displays at Cornerstone and Elkhorn Elementary Schools, declaration of surplus property, professional development stipends, and additional summer school staff.
The approved meal pricing for the 2024-2025 school year in Excelsior Springs School District is as follows:
Elementary Breakfast: $2.00
Elementary Lunch: $3.00
Secondary Breakfast: $2.20
Secondary Lunch: $3.25
Adult Breakfast: $2.50
Adult Lunch: $4.00
Milk: $0.50 per carton
In financial matters, the board approved the completion of payments for fiscal year 2024 expenses through June 30 and amended the FY24 budget to reflect actual revenues and expenditures. They also adopted the 2024-25 budget as presented by Superintendent Dr. Jaret Tomlinson (see below). The board also approved the 2024-25 salary schedules for classified, certified, and administrative staff, along with a salary step increase for all eligible employees effective for the 2024-25 school year (see below).

Anneliese Tadlock, the summer school director, provided an overview of the 2024 Summer Learning Program, highlighting the initiatives and participation levels. This year’s summer school program saw a diverse range of activities and classes tailored to different grade levels. The program not only addressed learning gaps but also offered enrichment opportunities for elementary and middle school students that kept them motivated and excited about learning. Tadlock said she felt the extracurricular activities also helped keep participation levels on par or above previous years.
Darren McKown shared insights from the June MSBA Board Report video, noting the upcoming Fall Region 4 meeting on September 4 and the annual MSBA Conference from October 17-19 in Kansas City.
During the closed session, several personnel matters were approved, including employment recommendations and resignations across various positions and schools within the district (see attached).
The next regular board meeting is a quick turnaround, scheduled for July 9, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom at the Support Services Center.
