Excelsior Roasting Co. Reopens After Fire Destroys Roaster

The Excelsior Roasting Company reopened its doors last week after closing for nearly a month to recuperate from a fire that destroyed its bean roasting machine. Owner Jenny Reynolds said a buildup of chaff from coffee beans got too hot and ignited inside the roaster creating a lot of smoke and ruining the old machine. Before the fire, she and her husband Josh were getting ready to do some remodeling of their seating and event space but the need to replace to roaster took precedence over any cosmetic changes they wanted to make. “We’re still hoping to do some updates in the next few months,” she said.

While they were closed Jenny says they experimented with a few new recipes and additions to their menu and modified their hours. “We did change up our pastry offering, we offer a few gluten-free items now. We have some tarts and pastries that we didn’t have before, people need to come in and check them out,” she said. Excelsior Roasting Company is now open 7 days a week from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
