Excelsior Springs, MO – Excelsior Springs High School hosted its annual Senior Awards Night on Thursday, May 9th, honoring the achievements of the 2024 graduating class. The event, held in the school’s PAC, celebrated and rewarded the students’ hard work and dedication.

This year, several students were honored with scholarships, demonstrating their commitment throughout their high school careers. Many of these scholarships resulted from the students’ participation in the school’s A+ Program, which requires students to maintain high grades, 90% attendance, exhibit good behavior, and complete at least 50 hours of tutoring or mentoring younger students.

Jason Besherse (above) and Caroline Wenz (below) were just a couple of the outstanding students who received special honors for excellence in scholarship.

Another handful of students were awarded honors for maintaining a GPA above 3.5 throughout their four years of high school.

In addition to academic scholarships, the night was marked by the recognition of students stepping into military careers. These young men and women were applauded for their bravery and commitment to serving the country, with special acknowledgment of their potential future contributions to the United States armed forces.

Landon Biermann was able to present his sister Jayden with the Melissa Biermann Memorial Scholarship and shared a hug during the standing ovation.

A particularly heartfelt moment of the evening came with the presentation of a new scholarship. In a tribute, the “Melissa Biermann Memorial Scholarship” was awarded for the first time. This scholarship was established in remembrance of Melissa Biermann, a beloved teacher and community member who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year. Melissa’s daughter, Jayden Biermann, was honored as the inaugural recipient, receiving the scholarship in recognition of the resilience, strength, and spirit she shares with her mother.

The Senior Awards Night showcased the achievements and future promises of the graduating class and brought the community together in celebration. As these young adults step forward into their future, they carry the financial support of their scholarships and their boundless potential to make the world a better place.
