The Excelsior Springs Community Center (ESCC) is getting a series of repairs that will improve safety, comfort, and enjoyment for their members.

Officials report that the spa, which has remained out of service since June due to a malfunctioning sand filter and UV system, is on track to reopen by next week. Nate Williams, director of Parks and Recreation, explained, “Once they get it hooked up, then we’ll be able to kick it on and make sure there was no other damage.” The team expects the long-awaited feature to have no other obstacles in the way of opening.

Meanwhile, attention has also turned to the pool area. The large rooftop unit known as the PoolPak—a machine that controls air circulation and humidity in the pool and auditorium areas—will be replaced soon. With approval secured from city council, its replacement is scheduled for this fall. This upgrade will allow the center to continue controlling air quality and humidity levels for their indoor pool.

Recent projects in the pool area have already wrapped up. Crews replaced outdated hardware on doors, upgraded locker room partitions, and improved emergency access points. This project installed a widened doorway leading out to the emergency side access door that outlets to Wornall – helping to make critical situations more efficient.

Looking ahead, the center plans additional enhancements. One major project involves replastering the eight-year-old pool, and a darker blue finish will likely be their choice to match the outdoor competition pool.

Finally, the next step: while Phase 3—enhancing the outdoor area—is still in design, it’s a project the Excelsior Springs community can eagerly anticipate!
