ES Youth Wrestling Club sends 16 to Regionals, 7 to State

The ES Youth Wrestling Club held a practice session on Wednesday, March 8th where the District medals were awarded to the participants.

The Excelsior Springs Youth Wrestling Club participated in the District Competition on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Chillicothe, marking the start of the state qualifying series for the USA State Wrestling Championships. The event saw intense competition as the young wrestlers vied for the top 6 positions to move onto the Regional tournament. 16 of the Excelsior Springs Youth Wrestling Club qualified for Regional Competition.

Regional Qualifiers and their place in their weight class are as follows:
Nels Lange – 6th
Chance Albertson – 6th
Mac Gear – 3rd
Karli Grass – 1st
Jackson Dunkle – 5th
Jrayton Salmon – 1st
Avrie Goetz – 6th
Kennedy Grass – 1st
Logan Bates – 1st
Sam Drexler – 3rd
Farrah Lange – 6th
Braxxton Vosika – 2nd
Lilly Smith – 2nd
Brayden Robinson – 4th
Lillian Goetz – 5th
Tristan Baumann – 5th

The Regional Tournament took place on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Staley High School. The top 4 wrestlers in each weight class at the Regionals will be moved on to the State Tournament at Hyvee Arena on March 24 & 25. Of the 16 regional qualifiers, Excelsior Springs Youth Wrestling had 7 qualify for the State Tournament. The Regional competition was fierce, with the young wrestlers putting in their best efforts to secure a spot in the State Championships.

Coach Rick Schwab congratulated all the participants at the ES Youth Wrestling Club on their excellent performance and noted their talent is a good indicator of the future success of the Tiger wrestling program.
