ES Hospital’s Family Care Series Inspires Attendees

Excelsior Springs Hospital’s Quarterly Family Care Series continues to provide valuable insights into the various community resources available for family health and wellness. During the latest session held on Tuesday, April 25th, attendees were treated to two informative presentations by healthcare professionals. Maura Woolsey, a registered dietitian, spoke about the crucial role that proper nutrition plays in maintaining good health, while Shannan D. Conner and Christy Marker shared their expertise on the various types of rehabilitation therapies available for those in need. Both presentations were well-received by the audience, and attendees left with a greater understanding of how to access and utilize these resources to benefit themselves and their families.

Woolsey’s presentation covered the benefits of working with a dietitian to develop personalized nutrient plans and setting Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals to prevent burnout, while also providing evidence-based recommendations related to chronic or acute illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. Woolsey suggested attendees could utilize ChooseMyPlate.gov to help select menu items that provide a healthy alternative to unhealthy choices. Attendees were also treated to healthier options of common meal items. For those interested in scheduling a consultation, Woolsey shared that a referral from a physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner is required. Most insurance plans cover the cost of a consultation with a qualifying diagnosis.
