Enrollment is now open for Excelsior Springs Summer School for grades K-12. Over the past several years, the school district has made an effort to offer summer school programs designed to engage students of all ages and abilities during the summer break. The programs provide a blend of academic support, enriching activities, and fun, ensuring students avoid the “summer slide” in learning and are prepared for the upcoming school year.
This year’s elementary (K-5) theme is “Once Upon an Adventure,” which keeps young minds active with themed weeks like “Places and Landmarks” and “The World Around Us.” Activities include field trips, hands-on projects, and, for some, archery! The program runs from May 29th to June 21st (no school is on June 19th) at Cornerstone Elementary from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Free breakfast and lunch, along with bus transportation, are provided.
For Middle Schoolers (6-8), “Summer of Fun!” eases the transition to middle school for sixth graders with introductory classes and building tours. Seventh and eighth graders can focus on core subjects, explore electives, or catch up on missed credits. The program runs from May 29th to June 21st (no school on June 19th) at Excelsior Springs Middle School from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Free breakfast and lunch, along with bus transportation, are provided.
Beyond academics, the elementary and middle school programs foster a love of learning through weekly field trips (community center, KC Zoo), hands-on projects (Mad Science), and activities that help to spark curiosity.
Options for High School students (9-12) include credit recovery, electives like personal finance and fitness, and even ACT prep for college-bound students.
