Excelsior Springs, Mo. — Starting Thursday, May 1 and running through the end of June, a new initiative called “Shop Local Late” will keep downtown Excelsior Springs businesses open later every Thursday evening until at least 7 p.m., with some shops staying open even later. The pilot program, launched by the Downtown Excelsior Partnership (DEP), is an experiment designed to meet the needs of working residents while testing the community’s commitment to shopping locally.
The initiative comes in direct response to repeated feedback from Excelsior Springs residents, who for years have expressed frustration over shops closing before they could visit after work.
“This isn’t just a marketing campaign, this is our small businesses stepping up for the community,” said Lyndsey Baxter, Executive Director of DEP. “The demand for extended hours has been growing and our merchants have come together to deliver an experience that’s fun and entertaining, and we hope it grows into an evening culture in downtown.”
Each Thursday during the campaign, participating businesses will offer exclusive promotions, late-night refreshments, and seasonal sales. The variety of shops includes boutiques, artisan makers, restaurants, galleries, and specialty retail — all within walking distance in the heart of the historic downtown district.
