A traffic accident this morning resulted in the death of Excelsior Springs resident, Richard Dobbins (30). According to witnesses at the scene, at approximately 10:15 AM* a 2000 Dodge Durango driven by Dobbins sped westbound down Jesse James Rd. at an alarming rate, forcing vehicles to take evasive actions to avoid collisions. A witness at the scene who asked to remain anonymous said, “He flew around me up there on Jesse James and it looked like he must have been doing 90, scared the hell out of me!” As Dobbins approached the intersection at Jesse James Rd and 69 Hwy he failed to yield, crossed the median, and crashed into oncoming traffic. Clayton Hoye and Justin Leardi were stopped at the intersection heading west when Dobbins approached them from behind. “He was going so fast, I just looked in my mirror and thought ‘we’re about to get hit’,” said Hoye. Leardi said, “I just heard tires squealing and then he went right behind us, jumped the curb, and went out into traffic.” According to the Missouri Highway Patrol Crash Report, Dobbins struck Michael Neary (32, Lawson) in his 2012 Nissan on the passenger side, forcing Neary into southbound traffic where Neary then collided with the front of a 2019 Chevrolet driven by Jon Webber (54, Cameron). Dobbins continued west, traveling over a steep embankment, and was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned. Amazingly, Neary was physically unharmed and Webber received only minor injuries from the incident.
* in an earlier version of this story we incorrectly stated the time as 9:40 AM, this event actually occurred closer to 10:15 AM as stated on the Missouri Highway Patrol Report.

Sounds like he was under the influence of something! No one in their right state of mind drives like that! Thankfully no one else was seriously harmed or killed!
as matter of facts he wasnt under the influence of anything he was just lost, hurt and in alot of pain…. yes im glad no one else got hurt. thats all i gotta say.
Thank you for the correction, Sasha. We are so sorry that you lost your brother. We will be praying for you and your family.
The time you have for the accident is not correct. We left Watkins Mill campground at 9:51 (logged in my cell phone for a call I made when leaving the campground). We proceeded west on 92 to 69 and then north through that intersection and turned on to Jesse James going south (east). There was nothing in the intersection. We drove up to the NASB bank and turned onto Miller. We did not see the Durango on Jesse James.
Thanks, we made an update to the story.
Regardless of what happened the family needs our prayers.
thank you for the prayer’s i sure do miss my lil brother..
