On the morning of October 13, 2023, the Excelsior Springs City Council convened for an early meeting at 8:30 a.m. due to scheduling conflicts and a relatively short agenda. Council meetings are typically held on the first and third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. This meeting takes the place of the meeting that had previously been scheduled for Monday, October 16. The issues addressed at the meeting included the following items:
Proclamation Recognizing Business Women’s Week
Councilwoman Sonya Morgan took the initiative to accept a Proclamation recognizing Business Women’s Week. This recognition is aimed at celebrating and honoring the contributions of women in the local business community, highlighting their significant role in the city’s economic development.
Renewal of Building Permit Fee Waiver for Non-profit Organizations
The council voted in favor of renewing a building permit fee waiver for non-profit organizations that assist property owners with essential improvements. This action reflects the city’s commitment to supporting organizations that contribute to the betterment of local properties and neighborhoods.
Lease Renewal of Parking Spaces on Thompson Ave
The council renewed the lease agreement for parking spaces in a public parking lot located on Thompson Avenue. This decision ensures continued access to parking for residents and visitors, contributing to the convenience and accessibility of the area.
Approval of Interfund Transfer between General Fund & Hospital
Another significant decision made during the meeting was the approval of an inter-fund transfer between the General Fund and the Hospital. This fund transfer indicates the city’s ongoing financial management efforts and ensures that essential services, including healthcare, are adequately supported as the hospital waits for incoming funds.
