Clay County Engages the Community in Comprehensive Planning for Future Growth

Public forum at the Excelsior Springs Community Center

Clay County, MO – As Clay County embarks on its Comprehensive Planning process, it is inviting the community to participate in shaping the future of the unincorporated areas within the County. The Comprehensive Plan aims to provide a clear vision and strategic roadmap that will guide decision-making and development in the region. This collaborative effort involves input from municipalities and jurisdictions within Clay County, focusing on crucial aspects such as land use, transportation, parks and trails, development patterns, housing, infrastructure, and economic development.

To ensure that the plan reflects the diverse perspectives of its residents, Clay County has launched a public survey, available for input until December 31, 2023, at www.claycountycompass.com. In addition to the online survey, paper copies are available at several locations throughout the County, including the County Administration Building in Liberty, the Clay County Parks Department in Smithville, the Clay County Planning & Zoning Department in Liberty, and the Clay County Annex in Kansas City.

Clay County officials are enthusiastic about engaging the public in this critical planning process and encourage all residents to participate. By sharing their thoughts, ideas, and concerns, the community can help shape a more vibrant, sustainable, and resilient future for Clay County.

In an effort to facilitate further community engagement, Clay County has scheduled three public open houses in December. These events offer residents the opportunity to meet with Clay County representatives and the planning team, learn more about the Comprehensive Plan, and voice their opinions. The open houses will start in Excelsior Springs and are as follows:

Public Open House #1:
Date: December 6, 2023
Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Location: Excelsior Springs Community Center

Public Open House #2:
Date: December 7, 2023
Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Location: Gladstone Community Center

Public Open House #3 (Virtual Only):
Dates: December 12-31, 2023
Access via the project website at www.claycountycompass.com

Clay County recognizes that not everyone can attend in-person events, and therefore, the virtual open house option is provided to ensure that all voices are heard.

Community involvement is crucial for the success of the Comprehensive Planning process, and Clay County urges its residents to participate actively in shaping the future of the region. By visiting www.claycountycompass.com, individuals can access more information about the comprehensive planning process, the public survey, and additional opportunities for community engagement.

Together, the residents of Clay County can work towards a brighter and more prosperous future, guided by a Comprehensive Plan that reflects their aspirations and values. Your input matters, so make your voice heard and be a part of this transformative journey.
