City of Excelsior Springs Hosts Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Household Hazardous Waste Products

On Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 8:00AM to 12:00PM at the Excelsior Springs Public Works building at 103 E. Water Street, the City of Excelsior Springs will host a KC Water Hazardous Household Waste Materials collection. Surrounding area communities are encouraged to participate. However, businesses and organizations are not permitted. This includes churches, schools, government entities, nonprofit organizations, home-based businesses, and material used to maintain rental properties.

Due to a shortage of processing capacity at incineration facilities across the country, KC Water asks that customers do not bring the following items until further notice:

  • Corrosive Cleaners
  • Hazardous liquids
  • Household cleaners
  • Lawn and garden products
  • Pesticides/insecticides
  • Photographic chemicals
  • Pool chemicals

Acceptable Items:

  • Automotive products
  • Antifreeze
  • Batteries
  • CFL Light Bulbs
  • Paint

Unacceptable Items:

  • Appliances
  • Asbestos
  • Containers larger than 5-gallons
  • Explosives, ammunitions, fireworks
  • Medical waste and needles
  • Prescription drugs
  • Propane bottles weighing over one (1) pound, fire extinguishers, butane and Freon
  • Tires
  • Yard Waste

KC Water uses Heritage Thermal Services, located in East Liverpool, Ohio to safely discard HHW products but the company is currently experiencing an extended equipment outage. Heritage is unable to accept waste at the facility at this time. Other companies across the country are in similar equipment outages and experiencing capacity shortfalls.
