Janet Wesley moved to Excelsior Springs in 1992 with her husband James on a “wing and a prayer” to be closer to her family. Growing up in New Jersey she never imagined she’d be living her best life in a rural community in Missouri, but after her father was transferred to the Kansas City Ford plant, she began to visit her parents several times a year. She and James slowly fell in love with the community. “We quit our jobs and Jim said, ‘pack your bags, we’re moving to Missouri,’ and that’s how we ended up here,” Janet laughed.
Upon their arrival, Janet applied for just one job and was hired almost immediately. Now, 30 years later, on December 2, 2022, Janet retired as a customer service manager at Mediacom. “Retirement is great, it is absolutely great,” Janet smiled. She said she’s planning to take some time to relax and recharge her batteries and she’s going to jump into being even more involved in the community.
Not long after arriving in Excelsior Springs, Janet and James joined the Main Street Baptist Church, which just celebrated its 127th anniversary this past June. When they first started attending the church only had a few members, mostly older adults, but the Wesley family jumped right in and made it their home. So much so that James became pastor and has been leading the church for over 23 years now. Under Jim’s guidance the church has grown and now has a good group of members from all walks of life. “We have the best group of people you could ever want to worship with… I just love my church,” Janet confided.
Janet said she is still in love with Excelsior Springs and hopes that the town can keep its charm as it undergoes change. She is proud to call the town her home and is grateful for the memories she has made there over the years. “I just want to see the town continue to grow… I’m excited about all these things happening. I am really excited,” she concluded.

Janet was always my go-to gal at Mediacom. She always apologized for issues I might be having (which unfortunately were many) and always had a solution for me. She went out of her way several times to help me with things that probably should have been handled by someone else. So glad to see she has retired and moving into the next phase of her life. Congratulations, Janet…ENJOY!!!!!
