Citizen Pet of the Week: Rocko (Available for Adoption!)

Excelsior Springs, Mo. (Feb. 23, 2025) – Welcome to another edition of Pet of the Week! This week meet 4-year-old Rocko, a Pitbull mix, who is currently in search of his forever family.

Rocko is currently being fostered by Ashley Lester, who was happy to talk all about what a great dog he is. Rocko has had a rough start to his short life, most likely bouncing from shelter to shelter in search of his forever. When Ashely first met Rocko back in November 2022, he was clearly malnourished and suffering from a broken tail.  Minutes from euthanasia, Rocko got a second chance in life with rescue and has been in Ashley’s care ever since.

Once Rocko started coming out of his shell in the comfort of his new foster home, his true goofy personality started to show, and Ashley shared he “has been nothing short of entertaining.” There are a lot of dogs coming in and out of Ashley’s home, and she shares that Rocko has always done great with them. She shares he “truly is the happiest dog and loves meeting new friends (though sometimes he doesn’t know his own size).” He is known to give a “million kisses” when he meets new people.

Ashley shard her favorite memory with Rocko took place about a year ago when they fostered a two-month-old puppy which Rocko decided to “adopt”. She recalls finding Rocko snuggled up with the puppy on the couch on multiple occasions. “He was so gentle with her and was always concerned about her whereabouts.”

Rocko’s favorite things include taking naps, watching movies with his humans, greeting the neighbor dogs, and playing tug of war.

Rocko is around 60lbs and would do best in a home without another dominant male dog but is otherwise good with other dogs. Ashley is unsure how he is with cats and children but shares he would probably do best in a home with older kids due to his size. If you are interested in adopting Rocko, you can visit his adoption profile here or contact his rescue here. A huge thank you to Ashley for sharing this special guy with us this week. Stay tuned next week to meet another furry citizen!
