Excelsior Springs, Mo. (Dec. 29, 2024) – This week’s Pet of the Week is a special one — the Excelsior Springs Police Department’s very own Blue.
Blue was born on Nov. 3, 2019, at the Excelsior Springs Animal Shelter. Officer Robertson adopted Blue and brought him to the station, where he has lived ever since. He even has his own badge number: 913.
Blue has free roam of the station, though he prefers to stay in the areas he is most familiar with. A creature of habit, Blue follows a daily routine that includes treats, being brushed, and searching for Chief Dull. If the chief isn’t in his office, Blue will circle the other offices until he finds him.
Jenny Kerr shared with The Citizen how Blue has trained her to know when it’s time for his daily tuna tube treat. He approaches her around the same time each day and leads her to the spot where he eats.
Blue has quite the setup at the station. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer perfect lookouts for him to enjoy, and in the basement, he has an automatic feeder, a water fountain, and a cat tree.
Blue is a lovable companion who gets along with everyone — everyone, that is, except the cleaners. He meows at the sound of their loud vacuums and tends to hide when they’re working around the station.
The officers and staff are lucky to have such a friendly companion and appreciate his presence. A big thank you to Jenni Creason for nominating Blue for this week’s Pet of the Week feature. Stay tuned next week for another furry citizen spotlight!
