Summer is just around the corner, and the Mid-Continent Public Library’s Excelsior Springs Branch is gearing up to celebrate kindness through an exciting Summer Library Program. From June 1st to August 24th, families in the community are invited to embark on a literary adventure, encouraging daily reading and engaging with literacy for at least 20 minutes a day. With fantastic prizes, badges, and even a Grand Prize up for grabs, readers of all ages will have a wonderful time. Join the Mid-Continent Public Library as they dive into the world of books and foster a love for reading and kindness within the community!
Daily Reading Badges and Prize Books:
Participants in the Summer Library Program have the opportunity to earn daily reading badges. Each day of reading can be logged, and readers will receive a badge to mark their achievement. Young readers aged 0-19 have a chance to earn special milestone prizes. Upon completing 20, 40, and 60 days of reading, they will be awarded a prize book from their local MCPL branch. Additionally, readers registered in Beanstack and logging 60 or more days will automatically be entered to win a coveted Grand Prize. Each MCPL branch will award a Grand Prize in three age categories: 0-5 years, 6-12 years, and 13-19 years.
Prizes for Adult Readers:
The Mid-Continent Public Library believes that reading knows no age limits. Therefore, the Summer Library Program extends its rewards to adults as well! Adult readers who log 60 or more days of reading will receive a special prize. Parents, grandparents, and all adults with a passion for literature are encouraged to dive into the Summer Library Program and make reading a part of their summer routine.
Impressive Success of the 2022 Summer Library Program:
The previous year’s Summer Library Program was an overwhelming success, with active participation from the incredible community. Over 19,600 readers took part in the program, collectively logging over 933,000 days of reading. As a result, the Mid-Continent Public Library distributed an impressive 30,579 books to participants, local daycares, and summer schools. The community’s love for reading and learning was truly inspiring!
Supporting the Summer Reading Program Endowment:
For those interested in supporting the Mid-Continent Public Library’s annual Summer Library Program, there is an opportunity to contribute to MCPL’s Summer Reading Endowment Fund. Donations to the endowment fund ensure that every child in the community has access to reading materials, educational activities, and free programs during the summer. Excitingly, this year, all gifts made to MCPL’s Summer Reading Program Endowment, up to $10,000, will be matched, thanks to a generous donation from the Thomson family. By donating, supporters can double their contribution and help foster a love for reading among children and families in the community.
