Excelsior Springs, Mo. (January 5, 2025) — The filing period for municipal offices in Excelsior Springs closed at 5 p.m. on December 31, setting the stage for the April 2025 election. The ballot will feature races for City Council and the School Board.

In the City Council race, the sole filer was incumbent Councilman and Mayor Mark Spohn, who is seeking re-election. With no challengers, Spohn is poised to retain his seat for another term.

The Excelsior Springs School Board race will be contested, with two seats up for election and three candidates vying for them. Incumbents Tray Harkins and Kalyn Goode will face newcomer Anna Sue Spohn.

Harkins, who has served on the board for over a decade and currently holds the position of board president, seeks re-election to continue his tenure. Goode is completing her second term on the board. Anna Sue Spohn, a local businesswoman and wife of Mayor Mark Spohn, has thrown her hat into the ring as a fresh candidate for the school board.

Further details about the candidates and their platforms will be provided in the months leading up to the election, scheduled for April 2025.
