Veterans in Excelsior Springs have an open invitation to join the local American Legion, a place where community and camaraderie thrive. The recent partnership with the Liberty Army Recruiting Company for their annual Christmas Party highlights the Legion’s active role in supporting military families and fostering connections within the veteran community.

Heather Eaddy, from the Liberty Army Recruiting Company, reached out to the Excelsior Citizen to raise awareness about the local American Legion’s efforts and facilities. “We chose the Legion’s Hall for our Christmas party to show our appreciation for our veterans and their families. It’s a great space, and the support we received was incredible,” Eaddy explained. The event, will be complete with appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus, and is partially sponsored by the Sons of the Legion as a gesture of gratitude towards Army recruiters, who are all volunteer.

Commander Brock Stout of the Sons of the American Legion emphasized the organization’s eagerness to welcome new members and assist military families. “It’s a privilege to help the Army Liberty Recruiting Company. We want our local veterans to know that the American Legion is a resource for them, offering support and a chance to give back to the community,” Stout said.

The Legion hosts a variety of events throughout the year, catering to diverse interests. Highlights include a Car Show, the Bill Payne Halloween Party, a Toys for Tots Christmas Drive, and Pancake Breakfasts. These events serve as opportunities for veterans to engage with the community and enjoy fellowship with fellow service members.

The Toys for Tots Marine Corps Drive this year was a resounding success, collecting $1,000 worth of toys to brighten the holidays for children in need. Additionally, the Legion’s Bingo nights on Fridays have become a staple in the community. Starting with Early Bird Bingo at 5:45 PM followed by regular games at 7 PM, these evenings are perfect for those looking to have fun and maybe even win big in the Queen of Hearts raffle.

Veterans and community members interested in participating in or learning more about the American Legion’s activities can visit the hall on Fridays from 4-10 PM during Bingo and Queen of the Hearts, or call 816-630-7711 for more information.

The American Legion stands ready to welcome veterans from all branches of service, providing a place to connect, share experiences, and contribute to the community. Whether you’re a veteran looking for camaraderie or a community member wanting to support local heroes, the Legion offers something for everyone. Join today and be part of a proud tradition of service and community.
