This past Saturday, the Excelsior Springs Tigers looked to return to championship form in their Baseball Jamboree. The Jamboree consisted of three-inning games against St. Michael the Archangel (SMA) and Raymore-Peculiar. These games were unofficial scrimmages, but they serve as a good gauge as to how the team is performing before the season officially begins next Friday, March 15, against William Chrisman.
The Tiger baseball program has had great success over the past few years, with multiple state championship runs, including a third-place finish last year with a 29-13 record. Unfortunately, the Tigers lost many key players this past year, including Mason Danner, Lucas Dillman, and Broc Dusek. Because of this, the Tigers must enable a next-man-up attitude to continue their success this season.
Excelsior Springs played SMA in the first game of Saturday’s jamboree. SMA finished last year with a record of 17-10. In this three-inning game, Excelsior Springs won 4-1. In the second game, Excelsior Springs played Raymore-Peculiar. Raymore-Peculiar was 10-21 last year and lost in the first round of districts, but they typically also compete in a higher class than Excelsior Springs. After three innings, this game ended in a 1-1 draw. This was an impressive jamboree for the Tigers, beating a tough SMA team and taking the draw with a much bigger school in Raymore-Peculiar. The Jamboree was a great start to what looks like it could be another competitive season for the Tigers!
