In a celebration of creativity and horticultural prowess, Jeff and Theresa Henson of 612 S. Kansas City Ave. have emerged as the proud victors of Thrive Excelsior’s Curb Appeal Contest. Their exquisite DIY garden has captured the hearts of both neighbors and visitors, earning them multiple nominations.
Their garden showcases their dedication to cultivation resulting in a lush and vibrant outdoor oasis. On Monday, August 7th, Excelsior Springs Neighborhood Specialist, Laura Mize delivered their award to the front porch pleasantly surprising them in the afternoon. After receiving their award, they gave a tour of their wonderful garden.

The couple’s garden, nestled on their front lawn, exudes a charming blend of beauty and functionality. Sunflowers stand tall, casting a warm, golden hue over the garden beds while flourishing tomato plants promise a bountiful harvest. Amidst the greenery, an array of other thoughtfully chosen plants adds depth and texture, creating a symphony of colors and scents that beckon visitors.
Beyond the flora, Jeff’s craftsman skills also share center stage. With meticulous attention to detail, he has crafted intricate brick designs and carved a pig weathervane perched atop their roof. His birdhouses seamlessly blend with the natural surroundings, infusing the space with his passion for woodworking. This artistic touch has added a personalized dimension to the garden which undoubtedly contributed to their victory.
Countless hours of dedication over several years have made their property a must-see in Excelsior Springs and made them the perfect selection for the August Curb Appeal winners.
