American Legion’s Vibrant Car Show Dazzles Excelsior Springs

Excelsior Springs Sons of the American Legion buzzed with excitement as it played host to a spectacular Car and Bike Show, highlighting classic and modified vehicles from various eras. The event showcased a range of cars from a 70 Chevy Chevelle to a 1929 Ford Model A, drawing automobile enthusiasts from across the region.

Rick Cobert from Camden, MO, displayed his 70 Chevy Chevelle in the Stock GM 50’ to 2003 category, earning adoration from the crowd. In the same segment, Crag Worley from Lawson, MO, showcased his 65 Ford Galaxie 500, reflecting the authentic charm of stock form vehicles.

The Modified classes saw Tom Young flaunting his 51 GMC Pickup from the 50’ to 59’ range, while Bryan and Nancy Sams from Knob Noster, MO, turned heads with their 69 XKE 2+2 Jaguar.

A 1934 Ford Coupe owned by Tom Anderson of Kearney, MO, was crowned Best in Show, stealing the spotlight and pictured alongside Michelle Glunt, the winner of the Pin Up/Rockabilly Contest.

Michelle and her husband, Victor Glunt, known for their fervor for the “rockabilly” trend, are regulars at area car shows, even extending their passion to exhibitions in Las Vegas. The couple not only dons attire reminiscent of the 40s-60s pin-ups but also immerses themselves in the lifestyle. Michelle’s prized possession, a brightly painted red 1929 Ford Model A, sparkles under the sun, symbolizing her love for hot rods.

Notably, the VFW organized an auction featuring items donated by local businesses and individuals. Geoffery Clark emerged as the luckiest participant, garnering numerous winnings and creating a visible path in the grass from his frequent jaunts to claim his prizes.

The event also hosted a coloring contest, with brothers Holden and Hudson Ryals clinching the victory, attending the event with their parents, Heatherlee and Jeff Ryals, who also presented a car.

The community spirit echoed through the event, with the Sons of the American Legion announcing their next gathering on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Legion at 208 Veterans Memorial Drive. The breakfast event will serve all-you-can-eat pancakes, eggs, sausage, and beverages, with the proceeds benefiting the Sons of the American Legion. The tickets are priced at $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.
