A Slow Path to a QuikTrip : Update from the Economic Development Director

Excelsior Springs, MO – QuikTrip is progressing with its plans to establish a new location in Excelsior Springs at 2021 Jesse James Rd. Melinda Mehaffy, Excelsior Springs’ Economic Development Director, recently shared updates on the project, highlighting the steps being taken to move forward.

QuikTrip has completed the application process for all necessary permits, and according to Mehaffy, the project is currently in the phase of ensuring all subcontractors have their current business licenses in order, a required step before construction can begin. As reported earlier, once construction begins, the timeline for completion is approximately eight to nine months.

The project is also in the stages of pulling permits for land disturbance, a requirement for any development disturbing more than an acre of land. This ensures an erosion control plan is in place, safeguarding the environment during construction. Mehaffy confirmed that the necessary approvals at the state level have been obtained, and the focus is now on meeting the city’s requirements.

An interesting aspect of the development process involves the timing of tree cutting on the site. Due to environmental considerations, there’s a specific window within which trees and vegetation must be removed. This ensures minimal impact on threatened and endangered (T&E) species during breeding season, adhering to the principles outlined in the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA).

In tandem with the QuikTrip development, the city’s Public Works department will undertake a project to lift a water line in the vicinity of the new development. This initiative was prompted by the discovery that the existing water line was buried too deeply, necessitating adjustments to support the area’s infrastructure needs.

The addition of QuikTrip to Excelsior Springs represents a new convenience for residents and indicates the city’s ongoing growth and development. Through careful planning and coordination with city officials and environmental guidelines, QuikTrip’s new location is slowly but surely, becoming a reality.

  1. Question is, how will traffic be managed o that corner? Will there be modifications to Hwy 10/ Jesse James Rd? It is already an area of confusion to mos.
